Like a bird in flight, this class will lift your spirits and make you sing! You'll create fun little birds dancing, nesting, and wading knee deep in personality. Our colorful fowl (indigenous only to the campus of the Chicago School of Fusing) are created with fused fabrics and hand embroidery. Learn the basic principles of designing artwork (like repetition, variety, and contrast) and make a colorful leaf quilt at the same time. Zen Doodle Quilts
Explore the mesmerizing world of Zen Doodling and design an original art quilt at the same time. You'll soon discover how easy it is to doodle like a Zen master and learn how to convert that drawing into a pattern for your quilt. With an easy pattern transfer process for fused fabric, your drawing quickly becomes a fused art quilt. New fusing tips and tricks are presented to enhance your Zen doodle design. Stitch After Fusing
A
well placed embroidery stitch on the surface of fabric brings a quilt
to life. It lends the surface additional color, pattern, definition,
and texture. In this class you will make a small flower quilt from
a pre-fused fabric kit. Basic embroidery stitches are reviewed using
brilliantly colored pearl cotton threads (also part of the kit). Learn
to entice the viewer closer to your art with free form, unfettered

Inside Stories
Are you a frustrated interior designer? Need at least one room in
your home that is neat and inviting? Like a dollhouse in fabric,
create a room of your own complete with wallpaper, flooring, furniture
and accessories. Learn fusing techniques like free-cutting, collage
building, bias fusing, fused weaving, and other textural devices
to make your colorful interior setting. Furniture templates and
a kit of hand-dyed fabrics are provided, just bring your imagination.

of Eden
In this tempting class create a small art quilt teeming with every
flower in creation. Build a blooming garden on a green base of
lush leaves, curly ferns and wavy blades of grass. Add simple
daisies, jolly tulips, and colorful chrysanthemums to the mix
and you have a garden that Eve would envy. All from colorful fused
fabrics. Directions for free cutting flowers, bias leaves and

Bad Dog and Cute Cat quilts are like the Sunbonnet Sue quilts only of the canine and cat world. In this class you create your own dog or cat quilt with colorful fused fabrics and an easy pattern transfer technique. You learn to construct an improvised background for Fido or Fluffy and fusing techniques like free-cutting, collage building, and other textural devices. Dog and cat patterns and a kit of hand-dyed fabrics are provided, just bring kibble. (No sewing machine necessary.)

Lesson
To truly make your own
art quilts, begin by designing your own fabric. In this class
you will make swatches of colorful fused fabrics like florals,
checks, stripes, and dots. Using those fused fabric swatches,
you can then create an art quilt illustrating a familiar object.
It can be an object of personal meaning such as a teapot, chair,
or birdhouse or possibly an abstract collage full of texture and
pattern. Either way, it is an original quilt made with original
fabric designs. (No sewing machine is needed.)

 Couching Thread, Hidden Needle
(A 3 - 4 day workshop)
A well placed embroidery stitch brings a quilt to life. It lends the quilt surface color, pattern, definition, and texture. In this class, you will make several small fused art quilts that act as your canvas for hand stitchery and take your work from flat to fabulous!
With the emphasis on basic embroidery stitches like running, seed, French knots, and lazy daisy, students will also learn more complex hand stitches, stitch combinations, and stitch variations. Learn about embroidery stitch choices, placement, and inventing new stitch ideas.
Create new work with the ease of fusing and entice the viewer closer to your art with free form, unfettered embroidery. (No sewing machine

 Translating Ideas into Fabric
(a 3 - 4 day workshop)
Like a journal or photo album, quilts illustrate the stories of our lives. Capture the essence of your story and transform it into an original fused art quilt.
Using your own sketch, photo, or even vague idea, you'll make a custom pattern for your design using a digital camera, computer, and projector provided by Laura. You'll learn fusing basics, how to create improvisational quilts, and a quick pattern transfer method that lets you freely translate your ideas into fabric.
It's easy to create original designs and to tell your own story in cloth.

Fusing
Fun: Fast, Fearless Art Quilts
(This is a 4 - 5 Day Workshop or a 2-Day Workshop)
Toss the templates and trash the rulers! Fusing is free form art
making at its best. Working with fusible web on fabric, discover
fusing techniques like free cutting, strip fusing, confetti collage,
playing blocks, and improvisational assemblage. The grand mystery
of a woodcut quilt is also revealed (in the 4-5 day version of
the class). Because fusing is fast and free you quickly invent
your own design language to explore. In this class you will create
multiple pieces of fun, fast, free, fused fiber art and get loose,
really loose. As an added bonus, learn tunes from the Chicago
School of Fusing Glee Club and graduate with an advanced degree
in Fusology. (Sewing machine is optional.)
