Quilting Arts

If you haven't received a June/July 2010 edition of Quilting Arts Magazine, rush out to your local book store to pick up a copy. There are lots of great articles examining hand stitching on the surface of textiles and my article on page 82 called Small Circular Quilts also includes hand stitching.

In the article, you'll find directions for creating round quilts like Pretty Planet #5 (left). These circular quilts are from my latest series of hand stitched quilts. It's not just about the circle shape for me, its about the idea of loving our planet and how joyous a place it can be!

Vale Craft Gallery Exhibit

If you are in the Chicago area this summer, please stop in at the Vale Craft Gallery to see several of my art quilts on display in their group show. Including Midwest Summer (left), there are several of my new small works to be seen.

The Vale is that rare gallery that displays wonderful objects from pottery to jewelry to basketry and beyond. It's located in Chicago's River North gallery district on Superior and Franklin and well worth the trip.

The exhibit opens Friday, June 4 with a reception from 3:00 to 8:00 and ends on September 4, 2010.
500 Art Quilts

Like many of my fellow artists, I too will have a quilt in the book 500 Art Quilts published by Lark Books. Housing Department #17 is now in the hands of a collector, Alice from Texas. But I remember how much I enjoyed making it and am happy it will be memorialized in this new book due out in 2010.
Danish Quilt Magazine Cover
I was happy to discover that my quilt, Seedpods, is on the cover of the Danish Quilters' Association's magazine called Kludamagasinet. When teaching in Spain, I meet some lovely Danish quilters and they were kind enough to include me in the June 2009 edition of their magazine.

Fuse and Tell Journal Quilts

IT'S HERE!!!!

My new book, Fuse and Tell: Journal Quilts, is now available!

I'm so pleased with my new book from C&T Publishing. It is a beautifully designed text full of colorful illustrations and step-by-step photos of 6 art quilt projects. These are quick little quilts that go from inspiration to finish in no time at all. It's a great way to learn how to create your own story in cloth.

Chapters include basic fusing information, how to machine quilt a fused art quilt, and 3 new methods of finishing the fast2fuse quilt (no binding, no rod pocket, and curvy edges!)

I also cover new techniques like bias fusing, cheesecloth fusing, and fused trapunto.

It's a fun book!
