Preparation
1. This quilt measures about 9" x 7" upon completion and is hand stitched and machine quilted.
2. Assemble all the materials and tools listed.
3. Fuse all the fabrics and remove all the release paper except that on the sky background fabric. Do not discard the release paper, save it for Steps 1 – 4 below.
Sky, Hills, and Water
1. Place release paper on the hills pattern. Trace the pattern with the Sharpie marker or a lead pencil and remove the release paper.
2. Place the marker side of the release paper onto the glue or fused side of one of the hills fabrics. Fuse the paper in place for 5 seconds. Let the fabric cool.
3. Carefully remove the release paper from the fabric. The ink will transfer to the glue. Cut out the shape just inside the black line with scissors.
4. Repeat Steps 1 – 3 for the 2 remaining hills, water, birdhouse and birdhouse parts. Or just free-cut the shapes using the pattern photo as a guide.
5. Center one of the hills horizontally on the sky background fabric about 3" up from the lower edge of the sky. Overlap the bottom edge of another hill to the right of the first hill by about 1/2". Overlap the bottom edge of the third hill to the left of the first hill. Fuse-tack into place.
6. Trim about 1/4" from each edge of the water fabric using a decorative blade in the rotary cutter or wave the edges of the water fabric as you trim with a straight blade.
7. Center the water fabric horizontally across the lower edge of the hills and overlap the hills by about 1/4". Fuse-tack into place.
Birdhouse and Swamp Grasses
1. Cut the birdhouse stick fabric on the bias (from corner to corner) to form 2 triangles. Cut 1 bias strip about 1/8" wide from the long bias side of one of the triangles to form the stick.
2. Place one end of the stick in the center of the water and angle it up into the sky to the right. Fuse-tack into place.
3. Place the house and porch floor on the top of the stick. Fuse-tack into place.
4. Trim one long edge of the porch top by about 1/4" with a decorative blade. Place it across the top part of the house where it starts to peak. Add the 2 roof piece to the top edges of the house peak. Fuse-tack into place.
5. Free-cut a dot measuring about 1/2" across from one corner of the grass fabric. Place on top of the peak of the house. Fuse-tack into place.
6. Free-cut a dot measuring about 1/2" across from the house parts fabric to make the door. Center the door on the birdhouse. Fuse-tack into place.
7. Cut each grass fabric on the bias (from corner to corner) to form 2 triangles. Set 1 triangle aside from each color. Cut 6 bias strips tapering from a sharp point to about 1/4" wide from the long bias side of the remaining 2 triangles for a total of 12 strips. The strips will range in size from long to short.
8. Fuse-tack the wide end of a grass leaf on the water fabric. Slowly fuse and curve the leaf up.
9. Repeat Step 8 with the remaining grass leaves to form 3 clusters of grass across the water.
10. Finish with a
Wrapped Binding.
